Whether you are moving to a Camden community for the first time or are new to renting altogether, you might have some questions on what modifications to your apartment are and aren’t permitted. You’ve found your dream apartment and now you may be wondering to yourself, “How do I make my mark?” Read on for answers to some commonly asked questions about making modifications to your Camden apartment home!
Can I paint my walls?
Yes! If you feel inspired to paint your walls, you are more than welcome to do so. However, keep in mind that most Camden communities have guidance that requires residents to either paint their walls back the original color or prime the walls to be repainted before moving out. If you forego the priming/repainting, additional fees may be incurred on your final account statement upon move-out. Don’t let that slow you down though! Your Camden team will help you find all the supplies you need, and in the meantime, you can enjoy your fantastic taste in paint colors.
Is drilling holes into the wall allowed?
Sure! Just like painting, any modifications made to the apartment are expected to be repaired by the resident prior to moving out. As a rule of thumb, we suggest that you do not make any holes in your wall that are bigger than a credit card so that it’s easier to patch up when you move out. Residents are welcome to mount their TVs, install additional shelving, or hang picture frames on their walls to make their space feel more like “home.”

Can I install a Ring doorbell camera?
In some cases, yes! Check with your Camden manager. You are more than welcome to have a camera inside your apartment. For example, we know that some residents may want an interior camera for added peace of mind, and pet owners may own a “pet cam” to check in on their furry friends while they’re away. Both types of cameras are welcome!
Is it okay to have a welcome mat?
It depends on your community’s style. Generally, garden-style communities allow welcome mats at your front door. Suppose you are not familiar with garden-style communities. In that case, these are apartment communities in which the buildings are spaced out and have open-air “hallways,” such as Camden Foxcroft in Charlotte, North Carolina. However, welcome mats are not allowed inside the hallways at mid or high-rise communities (i.e. communities that have three or more floor levels with indoor hallways), as it is a potential trip hazard in the case of an emergency evacuation. This is not to say you can’t have a welcome mat altogether. If you live in this type of community and would like to keep a doormat inside the entrance of your apartment or on your patio area, that is perfectly fine!
Can I hang a wreath on my door for the holidays?
Certainly! Whether it’s Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween, or Christmas - we love when residents decorate their doors for the holidays! We know that it is important to many residents to show their flair throughout the seasons, so a fun wreath or sign on their front door is always welcome.
