Take Everything Out
It’s time to remove everything from your closet. That’s correct, everything! This may seem intimidating, but it will provide you with a good idea of how many pieces of clothing own, wear, and don’t wear. While your closet is empty, this is the perfect opportunity to do a quick clean!
Sort It Out
It’s time to make four piles and assess. What are your everyday favorites, sentimental pieces, clothing options that no longer serve your style, and seasonal clothing?
Love: You wear this piece of clothing often, it fits, and makes you feel amazing.
Maybe: You haven’t worn this item lately, but are not ready to let it go.
Nope: This item is outdated, doesn’t fit, or maybe isn’t your style anymore.
Seasonal Storage: Seasonal sweaters or heavy winter coats that can be packed away.

Donate, Sell, or Toss
It’s time to sort through your items and ask yourself these questions.
Donate: Some items may still be in great shape, but no longer be your style. This is a great opportunity for them to fit into another person’s style! Check out your closet for any items that are in good shape and can be donated (these items can be gently used clothes, shoes, coats, and accessories).
Sell: Are there any items in your closet that no longer catch your eye? Think about selling! This way, you can give these pieces a second life and put some cash in your pocket. Platforms such as Poshmark, Depop, or consignment shops are great for your sell pile.
Toss: Any damaged clothing that cannot be salvaged can go in the toss pile. If you want a more sustainable disposal route, check for clothing recycling programs.
Reorganize with Intention and Sustain the Momentum
Following your closet cleanout, it’s time to organize! You can arrange by color or collection and consider storage solutions such as shelf dividers or under-bed bins for seasonal items. To keep your closet clean and organized, be sure to schedule mini-closet cleanouts every few months to keep things manageable.
