Halloween was always a holiday I looked forward to as a child. I vividly remember my mom making my costumes and, despite her inability to actually sew, creativity and a generous amount of hot glue always did the trick. The idea of dressing up, spending time with friends, and collecting as much candy as possible made Halloween a day I looked forward to each year.

Now as an adult, my feelings toward Halloween haven't changed, but the reasons I enjoy it have. Instead of dressing up and collecting candy, I now enjoy decorating my home, creating a festive atmosphere, and passing out candy to excited trick-or-treaters. I've learned that Fun Dip is always a crowd favorite! There's something special about seeing the excitement on a child's face and being part of a tradition that brings people together.

Decorating for Halloween is also a fun way to get creative and add a personal touch to your space. While I may not be getting a sugar rush on Halloween anymore, I still look forward to pulling out my decorations each year. Some I've made myself, while others were discovered at local craft fairs over the years. If a Halloween decoration speaks to me, I usually have a hard time resisting. The best part? You don't need a large yard or elaborate setup to make a big impact. Some of my favorite decorations are the ones that fit perfectly on the front door, balcony, bookshelf, or coffee table.

Easy Halloween Crafts for Apartment Living

  • Pumpkin Planters Bring a touch of fall to your balcony, patio, or windowsill by transforming faux pumpkins into seasonal planters. Fill them with succulents, mums, or other autumn favorites for a festive display that doesn't take up much space.

  • Ghost Candles Add a spooky glow to shelves, tabletops, or entryways with DIY ghost candles. Simply soften white pillar candles in hot water, mold them into ghostly shapes, and use an acrylic pen to give each one a personality of its own.

  • Yarn Pumpkins Create cozy fall décor with thick yarn, empty toilet paper rolls, and a few twigs. After some wrapping and a little creativity, you'll have charming pumpkins that are perfect for decorating bookshelves, coffee tables, or kitchen counters.

  • Tablecloth Wreath Give your apartment door a festive makeover with a Halloween wreath made from plastic tablecloths and a wire wreath form. This budget-friendly project adds a welcoming touch that neighbors and guests are sure to notice.

  • Ghost Garland Dress up a fireplace mantel, bookshelf, window, or entryway with a playful ghost garland. Made from fabric scraps, cotton balls, and a marker, this easy craft adds Halloween spirit without taking up valuable space.

One of my favorite things about apartment living during Halloween is the sense of community it creates. I love seeing how everyone decorates a little differently. From festive front doors and decorated balconies to creative touches inside each home, it's fun to see personalities shine through. Neighbors who may normally pass each other with a quick wave often stop to admire decorations, share costume compliments, or chat while handing out candy.

Halloween may look different than it did when I was a child, but the magic remains the same. It's a chance to be creative, make memories, and connect with the people around us. In apartment communities, those small moments often turn neighbors into friends and make a community feel even more like home.

At Camden, we believe those everyday connections are what makes a community special. If you're ready to find a place you'll love year-round, visit Camden's website to explore our communities, browse floor plans, and schedule a tour.
