Everyone’s work out style is different and sometimes the best place to get fit is in your very own apartment! Working out from the comfort of your own home is private and convenient. Plus, if you make your living space an exercising space, it can inspire you to be more fit overall while you are home. So how do you turn your apartment into an environment for working out? Here are some simple tips to get you started:

Invest in an exercise or yoga mat

Mats are easy to pull out of the closet when you want to work out! When you see the mat is on the ground, it immediately transforms your living room or bedroom into a spot for exercise. It creates a sense of motivation by bringing a part of the gym into your space.

Exercise videos

The Internet has a plethora of fantastic workout videos. Whether your jam is yoga, Pilates, aerobics, or another form of exercise – there are countless online instructors that provide their work out regime and motivation to keep you going when you want to stop. The best part is that this resource is absolutely free! Definitely, take advantage and find the instructors that get you going. Here are some recommendations:

Set a time during the day and commit

Typically the best time to work out is either first thing in the morning or at the end of the day. Section that time off for yourself and come back to it. When you get in the habit of working out that same time of day, it will eventually become second nature. It can be a challenge to form this habit – but plan to commit! Start with a week at a time and set a goal of how many days you want to work out that week. Then expand to a month. The key is to start with a small, attainable goal such as 15 minutes a day three times a week.

Have an accountability buddy

Now that you have your goal set, reach out to someone who will hold you accountable! This person can work out with you or be someone who texts you to be sure you got your exercise in. Be sure to pick someone who will push you and won’t let you slide. On the days when you can’t find your own motivation, having another voice pushing you makes a difference!
