Moving away from your current home into a completely new one can be stressful and exciting at the same time and require a lot of work. Moving is considered one of the most stressful events in life, and believe me I have learned this firsthand!

I moved out of state recently without any of these tips and I can tell you that these would have been a life safer. Prior to starting your move into your new Camden apartment home, it is best to be prepared and ready to make the move as stress-free as possible. Being prepared and focused can make your moving adventure more fun and easy!

1) Start as Early as Possible

When you have a set date to move into your new Camden apartment home, it is best to start packing as early as possible. Many stores like Home Depot and UPS sell heavy-duty moving boxes to assist in packing your belongings. With all the stress of moving, starting as early as possible is super beneficial in reducing stress and can help you feel less rushed when the move date comes up. Make sure you save the essential items for last, such as dishes, work clothes, and personal items. You wouldn't want to have to dig in a box each time you need a daily item before your move!

2) Get Rid of Items You Don’t Need

Moving is the perfect opportunity to dispose of or donate items you no longer need. Do you have a closet filled with too many clothes you don’t wear anymore? This is your opportunity to help people as well! Many donation places will accept all sizes and types of clothing. You can also sell many items on Facebook marketplace or by posting on any social media platform. Letting go and donating items no longer of use can bring a more spacious and clear state of mind for your move and your decorating of your new Camden apartment home. You will feel much better without all the clutter laying around that you have never used!

3) Label Your Boxes

Labeling your boxes is super important before your big move – your future self will thank you. When all is set and done after moving your belongings, nothing is nicer than knowing where each of your items is to make the moving-in process as painless as possible. A few tips on labeling include:

  • Label your boxes by room. This can assist your movers and yourself with where to take each box directly.

  • Label boxes with “H”, “M”, or “L” for High, medium, or low priority. This can help you mentally prepare the boxes you need to unload first.

  • Label with contents when necessary. For example, “Work Clothes” or “Kitchen Ware” for items you may need sooner than later after loading your new Camden apartment with all your boxes.

  • Last but not least, pack an individual suitcase of personal belongings. You don’t want to dig through an already-loaded moving truck for your toothpaste or clothes. Make sure you pack your suitcase with normal necessities that you would need on any trip away from home.

    • Staying with family or friends in between your big move? This is your saving grace for knowing where all your essentials are! This is very practical if you are working at your job in between your move.

4) Arrange for Movers

Movers can be expensive, but it is one expense that is very worth it. For any move, you will already be very preoccupied with all the tedious tasks of packing, relocating, driving, and taking care of family members and pets. Hiring movers will prevent more stress on yourself– this is a must-have for long distance moves. You will thank yourself once you are moved in. If you choose not to hire movers, reach out to some of your closest friends for assistance. If anything, do not try to move everything by yourself!

5) Forward Your Address

Last but not least is a crucial step that many people forget after their move – forwarding your address. On the USPS website, you can input your new address for any USPS mail to be forwarded if it is sent to your old address. Make sure also to update any subscriptions and delivery services you may have; Amazon, HelloFresh, etc. Also, update any friends and family on your new address! The last thing you want is a present or card delivered to your old address, never to be received.

Camden is here to make the process as least stressful as possible with the common stress of moving and relocating! Always feel free to contact your leasing office to clarify move-in processes and figure out what you need.
