To make it easier for you, I’ve compiled a list of all the essential items you’ll need for a functional new apartment!

Budget

An essential part of shopping for your first apartment is knowing your budget and staying within it! You can find your budget by writing down all your recurring bills, adding the totals, and subtracting them from how much you make a month. You will use the leftover amount to budget toward purchasing items for your apartment. I also recommend putting some money aside for your first month’s rent.

Your living room is the center of your home and where you will spend most of your time! You only need a few items for this area. Decorations can be purchased over time. The most essential part of your bedroom is having somewhere to sleep. A mattress and a bedframe should be your priority! As far as the living room, starting with a simple two-seater couch, a console table, and a TV. You can save money by purchasing these items at thrift stores, local garage sales, or from family members!
