Camden Employee Spotlight: Camile Churchill
We all know that Camden Apartments offer a great place to live with first-class amenities and amazing locations, but Camden’s true “secret sauce” is our employees. We spend a lot of time finding the right people to make up our strong, close-knit teams that will take care of not only our residents, but our employees as well. This is part of why Camden Property Trust has been on the Great Places to Work List for over 10 years in a row and why Camden was #1 on Houston Chronicle’s Top Workplace for 2018 for large companies.
Camile Churchill is our worker’s comp manager at Camden’s corporate office and has been with Camden for over 25 years. Camile started with Camden as a leasing consultant on-site before eventually transitioning to the HR department at our corporate office.

How did you find out about your initial job opportunity and your current role with Camden? I came from the hotel industry where I held numerous jobs which included working in Human Resources. Two ladies who I had previously known from the hotel industry worked at Camden in HR at the time and they recruited me. Since my experience in the hotel industry included working the front desk and concierge, they felt I would be a good fit for an on-site position. With regards to my current position, I always hoped that an opportunity would arise at some point to work in HR again. Lucky for me, that opportunity came in 2001. I worked with employee relations, new hires and ultimately managing workers' compensation. I truly feel that all my experience has led me to this job that I love.
How has Camden changed over the years? In some ways Camden has changed tremendously and in others, not as much. By this I mean that while we have grown exponentially, upper management is still as approachable and down to earth as the first time I met them.
When did you know Camden was a good fit for you? From the beginning I felt a sense of comradery and family. We work together to make a difference in people’s lives by offering them more than just an apartment, but rather a place they can call home. Since transferring to HR, I feel like I’m making a daily difference in employees’ lives.
What is your favorite part of your day at work in your current role? When I get a call from an employee that needs assistance and I feel like I have provided them valuable assistance.
What is your favorite memory so far with your team? The time we had a Halloween contest at corporate where all the departments decorated their areas and dressed up. HR was transformed into a wacky hospital. I played the part of an old confused patient in a hospital gown with the back partially open exposing my rear - a fake plastic one with a Camden bird tattooed on it. It was a very happy and memorable moment when I accepted the award for best costume from Ric and Keith.
What is your favorite memory when you worked onsite? Hmmm, that’s a difficult question to answer as it is hard to pick just one. Over the years, we had many residents come to the office thanking us for doing a great job. They often brought us goodies to demonstrate their appreciation, which made it even more special.
What advice would you give to someone applying to work for Camden? Though the expectations are high, as they should be, you are given the opportunity to grow and advance. I’m surely a perfect example. When you’re offered the opportunity to work at Camden, you’re not just gaining a job, but joining the Camden family.
Which Camden Value resonates most with you and why? Lead by example. I have always taken tremendous pride in my jobs and would like to think that people that work with me presently or in the past, would say they have been positively impacted by my work ethic.
What is something people would be surprised to know/learn about you? I wanted to be an actor growing up and attended the Alley Theatre Merry-Go-Round children’s acting school.
