We know what Leasing Consultants and Maintenance Technicians do, but what about the Community Managers? Every property needs a property manager like a garden needs a gardener.
Having been in the property management business now for many years, I have heard a great many assumptions about Community Managers. Almost referring to them in a mystical way, as if they are not "real" members of the onsite staff. Having worked incredibly hard to become one, I have been given the rare insight of being able to learn what it REALLY means to manage a community.
Did you know?...
Community Managers are onsite almost every day, sometimes longer than everyone else:

Community Manager, Ruth, has some sweet fun!
Because Community Managers do not work a set schedule, they are at the property until all work is completed, all residents and staff are happy and all vendors/emergencies have been handled.

Do you not know something? Are you experiencing an emergency? Who do you call: Your Community Manager!
Most of the onsite escalations of ANY kind go to the Community Manager. Whether maintenance, personal or employee related, the Community Manager knows about it all and has most likely handled it.

Business that occurs onsite is all a team effort. No one is exempt from helping when needed. Community Managers lead by example and can oftentimes be seen unclogging toilets, doing tours and staying late for resident events.

Have you ever seen the movie "A Beautiful Mind"? Do you remember how Russell Crowe's character constantly saw numbers and mathematical equations? Yeah, that is a reflection of a Community Manager's mind. Community Managers are oftentimes responsible for the community budget and making sure that everyone - residents, staff and building are well taken care of by community resources.

Stop and think for a second about how heavy the weight is that the Community Manager carries. When residents need an ear, they listen. When a Maintenance staff member needs a lending hand, they help. When an office staff member needs a mentor, they mentor willingly. It takes a really special person to be that kind of jack of all trades.

Community Managers are a very irreplaceable group of people. They do not flaunt their position or the severity of their daily tasks, but instead, move along with a smile. The next time you see yours, just start cheering them on, or stop and applaud them. Why? Because they deserve it!
