Each new year, many of us feel inspired to set fresh goals. But if you’re anything like me, past lists have been long. This year, I’m keeping it simple with two sustainability habits that are easy to maintain, cost nothing, and make a real difference for your personal well‑being and sustainability in your Camden apartment home.
Wash Clothes in Cold Water: A simple switch with meaningful benefits Why this matters:
Heating water accounts for about 90% of the energy used in laundry
Cold water works just as well for most loads
Clothes last longer when washed in cooler temperatures
Less energy usage means more money saved
This is truly a “set it and forget it” habit. Once you make the switch, it becomes automatic.

Power down your Apartment and Yourself
This one might take a little practice, but it’s highly effective. It reduces energy use and creates a calming transition into the evening. What it looks like:
Turn off lights in rooms you’re not using
Unplug chargers, small appliances, and electronics
Fully shut down your computer instead of leaving it in sleep mode
After powering down, step outside and take advantage of your beautiful Camden community. A short 10–20 minute walk around the neighborhood or a nearby green space can make a noticeable difference in how you feel.
Benefits of a nightly nature walk:
Clears your mind after a busy day
Helps you unwind and breathe deeply
Reduces screen time and indoor light exposure
Strengthens your connection to your community and environment
It’s a simple ritual that supports both sustainability and personal well‑being.
