There’s a new movement arising where enthusiasts are decluttering to the bare-bone essentials. They are taking up life in tiny houses that challenge the notion of what we need.  If living in 200 square feet or less seems unfathomable, why not simplify your life for just a day or two? I decided to give it a try…

Welcome to WeeCasa, a tiny house hotel located on a former mobile home site just outside Lyons, CO. This quaint little community allows guests to try a tiny house on for size, literally.

My “casa” was 170 sq. ft. plus a loft upstairs. It featured a Murphy bed, a fully functioning bathroom and kitchen, free WiFi, and enough character to beat any palatial new build house of today.

The beautiful amenities make up for the tiny space!

A few questions you may be wondering…

  • Could you stand up? I am six feet tall and had no problem standing upright. I will say that the showers are TIGHT. You may also want to stretch before ascending the ladder to the loft.

  • Was it cramped? Yes and no. I have lived in small spaces before (i.e. a ship's cabin for five years) so this was actually large for one person. Now add a second person and some pets and you may want to go for one of the larger models. While the definition of a tiny house is gray, typically it’s any livable dwelling of less than 400 square feet.

It's four rooms in one!
  • How’s the storage? Mind you, WeeCasa homes are set up for hotel stays, so storage is minimal. Tiny home builders can be quite creative and use the space in ways you never thought of. That being said, unless you want a second tiny home for just your closet, you will need to host some serious garage sales before  choosing this path of living.

Great ideas for storage in the tiny house!

Despite some logistical improvisation, the tiny house hotel experience was one of relaxation, peace, and simplicity. I can’t tell you the last time I sat on my porch for an hour just watching nature. (While eating chips, salsa, and chocolate chip cookies. Don’t judge.)

In Colorado, we are lucky to be challenged with several opportunities for amazing experiences. WeeCasa was actually ranked one of The 28 Best Trips of 2016 by Outside Magazine. I would have to agree as the experience lies far beyond its tiny walls.

Want to give it a whirl? Explore WeeCasa! Houses range from $149-$199 per night. Be sure to check out the tour as well!
