If you have read my other blog, How to Keep Your Pets Off The Naughty List you know that I have two very fuzzy Huskies. Although I wouldn’t trade them for the world, their hair drives me nuts! Having Aspen and Knox, I have found some clever tips for dealing with pesky pet hair in my apartment home.

Groom your pet

It’s crucial to groom your pet often. Not only does this help with their appearance but with their health as well. Brushing helps remove dead hair, dirt, and dandruff and helps bring out the natural oils in your dog’s fur.

Many Camden Communities have Dog Spas. This allows you to clean your pet without clogging your drain and keeping your bathroom tidy. I have two favorite tools that I use for my pups. My FURminator tool is the best! It helps reach through their topcoat to remove loose hair from the undercoat. I cannot live without a Pet Grooming Glove. As you brush your pet the hair sticks to the glove allowing you to easily peel it and throw it away.

Vacuuming

Even with grooming, my huskies shed a lot. Many people like to sweep; yet, I have found this leaves hair behind. I invested in a nice vacuum that not only worked on the carpet, but hard surfaces as well. I chose a Dyson which not only collects all the hair, but removes dust and other allergens from the air. If you are short on time, there are a variety of robotic vacuums that you can buy, some even empty themselves!

Maintenance

There are also a few other household tips I would recommend. Here at Camden, we provide you with free A/C filters. We recommend changing them out once a month. Pick one up from the office or submit a service request through your MyCamden Portal and we’ll change it for you!

If you allow your pets to snuggle with you then take advantage of your in-home laundry. When washing your bedding, add a half-cup of white vinegar to the machine’s rinse cycle. The vinegar is a natural fabric softener and helps loosen the pet hair. To avoid clogging your washing machine, wipe out any excess hair after the cycle is complete.
