The holidays are a time for joy, family, and festive fun, but for pet parents living in a Camden apartment, it’s also a season that requires a little extra planning. From décor hazards to holiday guests, here are a few practical tips to keep your furry friends safe and happy while you celebrate the holiday season:

1. Create a Cozy, Safe Space The hustle and bustle of the holidays can overwhelm pets. Designate a quiet corner with their bed, favorite toys, and water bowl. This gives them a retreat when guests arrive or festivities get loud. Pro Tip: If you have a balcony, add a cozy blanket and bed so they can breathe in the fresh air.

2. Decorate with Pet Safety in Mind Holiday décor can be tempting for our curious friends. Avoid tinsel, glass ornaments, and edible decorations like popcorn garlands. It is best to use shatterproof ornaments and secure your tree, so it doesn’t topple during a playful moment.

3. Watch Out for Holiday Hazards Chocolate, grapes, and certain holiday plants, such as poinsettias and mistletoe, are toxic to many animals. Keep treats and décor out of reach and remind your guests not to share anything off the table with your pet.

4. Plan for Guests and Noise If you’re hosting a holiday gathering or feast, make sure your visitors know you have pets. Have your guests let you know a few minutes before you arrive so you know where your pet is and can help prevent escapes. With many people in a small space, make sure your pet has a favorite blanket or a white-noise machine during parties to help them settle. Pro Tip: Many Camden communities feature pet-friendly walking areas and/or a dog park. Take your furry friend out to play to tire them out before the festivities begin. 5. Treat Your Pet to Holiday Fun Don’t forget to buy a gift and put it under the tree for your favorite pet. A new chew toy, yummy trea,t or cozy sweater can make them feel part of the festivities. You can also create a fun holiday moment with your pet – do a mini photo shoot in front of your festive décor.
