The project is  “Remote Houston” and it has visited cities throughout the world starting in Berlin making its way over a dozen countries world-wide- and now it’s our turn Houston!

Why should I go?This urban hunt takes its guests to little nooks and crannies in Houston that you may have missed, whether you are new to Bayou City or whether you’ve lived here for decades. My good friend, fellow blogger, and Houston transplant Katie Baumann mentioned to me, “Not growing up in Houston, I've had only glimpses through my own experiences of what makes this city special. Remote Houston showed me what the true heart of Houston is and gave me a new appreciation for my city!"

Katie Baumann and yours truly

What is it?The creator, Stafan Kaegi and his creative team Rimini Protokoll, came to our marvelous city and have studied it like a director studies a stage before production to create an immersive and thought provoking experience.Alley Theatre is hosting Remote Houston, and although there is no stage or curtain is still a theatrical experience. Houston is the stage, Houstonians are the actors (and sometimes the audience), and the plot is ethereal. This is a mind-opening, social, guided tour throughout the streets of Houston. It is a journey taking one through a human life-cycle through living art. You will wear headphones and a voice will be keeping you company along the way as if it was there with you and aware of where you are, and where you are going. We don’t want to give anything away because it needs to be experienced!

Where is it?You meet in the Alley Theatre and from there you will make your way to Evergreen Cemetery via the METRORail, which will be paid for by the Alley Theatre. If you are unable to be at the Theater by 3 pm, head to the Evergreen Cemetery by 3:45 if you need the time cushion.

The hoard du jour

You will walk along with 49 other people as a “hoard” around Houston’s historical 2nd ward, and will make your way back to the Theater District being completely disconnected, yet aware, of the world around you.

When can I go? All showings start at 4 pm and end at 6 pm. Remote Houston is going on until May 20th, and showings are during the weekdays. Tickets are selling fast!

But as always, Simply Camden is here to give you helpful tips to aid you in your experience.
