Were you bummed that your vacation plans got postponed this year? We were too, but fun times and new adventures don’t have to wait until 2021 and beyond. That’s the beauty of a staycation! If you call Houston, the nation’s 4th largest city, home there’s plenty to do! Whether it’s just for the day or Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, we’ve got your next Houston staycation covered.

While your health and safety are the most important things to keep top of mind. You can still get out of your home and make new memories all around town.

Houston Staycation For the Day:

Inside the Loop, look no further than Hermann Park. No, seriously…it’s 445 acres filled to the brim with things to do and see! You’ll find The Houston Zoo, The Hermann Park Golf Course, The Houston Museum of Natural Science, McGovern Centennial Gardens and so much more! Not to mention miles of hiking and biking trails, pedal boats, and even a train! If you want to have Hermann Park as your everyday backyard, you’re in luck! You can live less than 3 miles away at Camden Vanderbilt.

The fun doesn’t stop there; also inside the Loop are attractions such as the Downtown Aquarium and Houston Arboretum and Nature Center. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, you’ll find several dining options within the Downtown and Midtown neighborhoods. And if you find that you don’t want to leave, there are several Camden communities nearby, Camden Midtown, Camden McGowen Station, and Camden Downtown, to name a few!

Outside the Loop, head south on I-45 and check out Space Center Houston, where you can learn all about U.S. space travel through fun interactive exhibits, tours, and attractions. Once you’ve gotten your STEM fill, hop over Clear Lake to the Kemah Boardwalk. Kemah features a Gulf Coast theme park boasting incredible views of the Galveston bay with amusement rides, boardwalk games, and several waterfront dining options – the list goes on!

Houston Staycation For the Weekend:

If you want to keep it local within the inner Loop, check out these options. Enjoy modern luxury at Hotel Alessandra, or float the Texas shaped lazy river at the Marriott Marquis Houston in Downtown – chances are you can enjoy this well into November (thanks, Texas heat!). Imagine you’ve been transported to another country at the Hotel Granduca or feel like a celebrity with top-of-the-line-service at The Post Oak Hotel. Each hotel boasts world-class amenities and is located near fine dining, popular nightlife and entertainment spots.

However, if you’re really wanting to feel like you’re getting away without going too far, we’ve got you covered. The Woodlands Resort, just 30 minutes north off I-45 is perfect for the whole family with a water park for the kids and a spa and golf course for the adults! Just a little bit further north is the recently opened Margaritaville Lake Resort on Lake Conroe. Kick back, relax and enjoy the island feel!

If a lake resort isn’t the move for you, then it’s a good thing Galveston Island is only an hour from Houston. Rent a beach house, check out San Luis Resort & Spa or Moody Gardens. There’s something for everyone while you enjoy that island breeze and wake up to the sound of the waves crashing against the shore.

While we’ll say we’re ready to get some new stamps on our passports, we know how we’ll be spending our long weekends throughout the rest of the year! In the meantime, while you’re planning your next Houston staycation, check out these incredible virtual tours you can experience from the comfort of your couch!
