The name of the game is organization. Your most valuable player during a move will be the marker and you’ll thank him once you’ve reached your new home. You wouldn’t want to be running around looking for your family documents in a sea of 50 something boxes. To avoid such mishaps use this moving game plan to save you time and money:

  • Clearly label boxes on top and side. Pack important and sentimental documents separately to be easily accessible including: children’s health records, passports, family records, insurance information and photo albums.

  • Pack a box of essential items. Things that you will first need during the move and make sure it’s the last thing added to the truck.

  • Schedule disconnect times. A week before move day so you don’t have to pay for cable, phone and utilities when you aren’t even there!

  • Use the correct boxes. Use wardrobe boxes to make closets easier to pack. Use small boxes for books. Don’t pack with used food or supermarket boxes. You don’t know if the box will be strong enough to support your possessions and who knows what critter is hiding. Remember: the heavier the item, the smaller the box.

  • Use packing tape. Never duct tape.

  • Have super subs. If you are depending on friends and family to help you move, have a back-up plan if they don’t show.

Game plans aren’t just made for football fields – they too are essential when moving across the valley, Nevada or the country. For more home moving tips visit Two Men and a Truck in Las Vegas.
