A Glimpse into the Past
The Orange Court Hotel made its historical presence from 1924 until 1990. Designed by renowned architect G. Lloyd Preacher, the hotel had 275 rooms featuring stunning Mediterranean architecture. Guests were treated to Orlando's first indoor, steam-heated pool, a lush tropical courtyard, and private sun balconies lined with jasmine!
The hotel was a hub for social gatherings, hosting banquets, receptions, and business meetings. In 1944, it even served as a temporary broadcast location for WDBO (Way Down by Orlando) after a hurricane damaged their studio. Fun fact: WDBO is Orlando’s oldest radio station, owned by Cox Media Group!

After a small closure in 1963, the Orange Court Hotel was then reopened by A.C. Kavli, whose goal was to make it an affordable place for guests to rest their heads. The indoor pool was filled, and the space was converted into additional rooms for rent. As the years went on, the number of visiting tourists declined, but they saw an increase in long-term retirees who called this hotel home!
Despite facing business challenges and undergoing multiple changes in ownership, the Orange Court Hotel remained a beloved landmark until its demolition in 1990. Today, Camden Orange Court carries forward the legacy of the historic hotel.
Homage to History
Camden Orange Court stands as a living tribute to the historic Orange Court Hotel that once graced this site. Throughout the community, you can find pieces of history located throughout as a way to ensure its memory continues as a part of our community.
At the entrance, you'll find rocks once part of the hotel's original structure, serving as a tangible connection to the past. Scattered throughout the community are postcards and photos, each telling a story of the hotel's storied history and its significance to the area.
To bring it all together, another way that the community wanted to tribute is by naming each floor plan after a famous hotel. A few examples include the Bellagio, Ritz, and the Waldorf floor plan!
