Just a quick 10‑minute drive from Camden Creekstone, Camden Dunwoody, and Camden St. Clair, Buford Highway is basically Atlanta’s unofficial passport to some of the best Asian food in the city. It’s not just a road; it’s a full-on eating adventure. If you’ve ever wondered where Atlanta hides its boldest and flavor-packed Asian restaurants, the answer is simple: they’re all right here.

I set out to taste my way through a few standouts, and three spots immediately earned a place on my must-share list: Kamayan ATL, Tum PokPok, and Han Il Kwan. Each one brings its own personality, and together they show exactly why Buford Highway is one of the most exciting food corridors in the South.

Kamayan ATL: A Hands-On Feast

Growing up in the Philippines, my standards for Filipino food are pretty high. So, walking into Kamayan didn’t just feel familiar, it felt like coming home. The whole setup for their famous “Budol Fight Spread” is a celebration of the culture I grew up with, long tables lined with banana leaves, a colorful spread of grilled meats, seafood, rice, and veggies. It’s communal eating at its best.

“Kamayan” literally means “with hands,” and honestly, the food really does taste better when you ditch the utensils and dive in. The whole experience feels like being welcomed into the family, like you’ve been invited to someone’s weekend feast. Kamayan isn’t just a restaurant, it’s an event. One of those meals that stays with you long after you’ve left the table.

Tum PokPok: Thai Food That Doesn’t Hold Back

Tum PokPok is the kind of place that reminds you exactly why Thai cuisine has such a devoted following. The moment a dish hits the table, you’re met with a wave of aromatics, bright herbs, toasted spices, and that unmistakable Thai flavor that tells you you’re in for something real.

They don’t play it safe here. It’s the kind of food that wakes you up in the best way. If you like dishes with bold heat, this is your spot.

Han Il Kwan: Classic Korean Comfort

Han Il Kwan is one of those restaurants that instantly puts you at ease. It’s cozy, unpretentious, and full of the kind of Korean comfort food that makes you want to settle in and stay awhile. It’s also Michelin‑recommended, which makes perfect sense once you taste the food. There’s quiet confidence here, the kind that comes from doing things the right way for a long time.

This is the place to bring friends, family, or even just yourself when you want a satisfying meal. You leave not just full but genuinely nourished, as if someone took care of you.

Why Buford Highway Matters

Buford Highway isn’t about fancy décor or curated “fusion” menus. It’s about authenticity, community, and flavors rooted in generations of tradition. Eating your way down Buford Highway is more than a food tour. It’s a cultural journey, a celebration of Atlanta’s diversity, and a reminder that some of the best meals come from the most unassuming places.

If you haven’t explored it yet, consider this your sign. Bring your appetite. Bring your curiosity. And maybe bring stretchy pants.
