(http://camdenblogs.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/419624_66241362.jpg)Corn mazes are for FUN! If you love fall as much as the next guy (if you consider me "the next guy," that's certainly a lot), then you should be outside roaming the city. Houston and its outskirts contain some of the best fall attractions around- my case in point? Dewberry Farm in Brookshire, Texas. Brookshire is just past Katy- take I-10 straight on out! Now, I should put my disclaimer on this by letting you all know that I have a five-year old daughter, which immediately endears me to any place that agrees with their main philosophy: fun. Dewberry Farm is definitely not just for kids, though - although I am predisposed to any place that lets me channel my inner pumpkin-choosing, hay-riding, guinea-pig-loving self, I am convinced that no adult can resist the charm of this farm. Let's start with the four-acre corn maze. Ever seen Stephen King's "The Shining?" Well, it's nothing like that (mostly because you will not be chased by anyone with an ax and a murderous personality). You can wander three miles of corny paths and when you finally find your way out, you'll be smack in the middle of a 16-acre pumpkin patch. If that doesn't bring out your inner child, I don't know what will! Nothing is more fun than searching for the perfect plump pumpkin whose face to later stab and carve (OK, that was a little "Shining." Sorry.). Other attractions include a hay wagon ride, a "lost treasure" station where you can use a real mining sluice to search for the fortune you so deserve, rubber duck AND pig races (the ducks are fake, but the pigs are real!), calf roping, a corn cannon (which is just as fun as it sounds, a usually impossible feat), a corn train, a sweet shop (!!!!!), and an awe-inducing barnyard filled with critters that are almost as cute as the pictures you just finished taking. General admission starts at $12, with special activities incurring additional fees. Dewberry Farm is open to the public through November 23; you can visit them online at www.dewberryfarm.com or head straight out to 7705 FM 362, Brookshire, TX 77423.
