One of the most exciting events to come to Houston each year is the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR). Every March this event rolls around and for three weeks Houstonians can experience barbecue, rodeo games, concerts, and all the fun of a good old fashioned livestock show. This event is the largest of its kind in the world, with attendance topping out at over two million people.
This year I plan to attend a HLSR event that I’ve never been to before, the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest, also known as the cook-off. This three day event takes place in NRG park and includes live music, dancing, and lots of barbecue! Tickets to the cook-off are $15 and get you access to The Garden and the Rockin’ Bar-B-Que Saloon. Tickets also get you a complimentary chopped beef sandwich. The place to be, however, is the team tents which are invitation only. So, schmooze your friends who might be able to get you access for the high demand tents! When you’re done eating barbecue, head over to the livestock show to see a large assortment of cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits, chickens, and so much more. In the same building are shopping booths full of clothing, décor, and other great products. All of these amazing events are so close to Camden communities throughout Houston. Don’t miss your chance to rock out at the rodeo – I hope to see you there!
