Camden Cares Striving to Keep Hope Alive
“The brave men and women, who serve their country and as a result, live constantly with the war inside them, exist in a world of chaos. But the turmoil they experience isn’t who they are. The PTSD invades their minds and bodies.” Robert Koger, Death’s revenge
PTSD, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, is an invisible disease that can last months or even years. PTSD can be brought on by life threatening events such as military combat, natural disasters, terrorist incidents, serious accidents, extreme bullying and physical or sexual assault in adult or childhood.
Camp Hope is a safe haven for wounded warriors and their families to help cope with the return and stress from combat related PTSD in a warm and secure environment in Houston, TX. Not only does Camp Hope provide one–on-one training, group lessons and support sessions -- they also provide group activities like fishing, hiking, and normal day to day tasks to assist veterans in their return to civilian lifestyle.
Camden has partnered with Camp Hope along with other organizations to assist in any area they may need. “Camden invests in every community we serve. We support those in need and give back to those who have given so much. When we work together with our neighbors, we create Living Excellence.”
This past month, Camden was able to give back to local veterans in the Houston area by renovating one of the houses at Camp Hope. Of course this cause is extra special to Camden, because we are passionate about providing quality housing to people in need.
Camden team members from multiple communities gathered together with one common goal: to give our fellow veterans’ roof over their heads, an extra sparkle! This included installing new flooring, new appliances, a fresh paint job, organizing household items, and even a fresh deck job!
As employees, we have experienced first-hand the care that Camden has shown our community. Camden Cares is a volunteer program that allows Camden employees to selflessly give back to their community. Being able to work so closely with veterans that has risked their lives so that I may continue to enjoy the freedom that this great country has to offer is overwhelming. We now understand that not all diseases are visible but sometimes suffered in silence and not always easy to cope with. If you are or know someone that is suffering with PTSD please do not suffer alone there are programs available to assist you. Thank you to all the veterans and active duty soldiers that risk their lives daily so that we can continue to live in the land of the free and the home of the brave. Camden salutes you!
