On September 20th Hurricane Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico as a Category 4 storm. It was the strongest hurricane to make landfall in Puerto Rico since 1928, leaving the entire island without power, communication, and causing many to lose their homes.

This news hit home hard for me, as well as many of my coworkers, residents, and neighbors at Camden. Trying to watch the news, listen to the radio, and a number of failed attempts to make contact with our families on the island was difficult. The wait was frustrating and made me feel helpless.

After a very long and nerve-wracking wait, we are finally able to make some sort of contact with our families little by little and hear about their experiences during and after this terrible storm.  Hearing about their experiences, low to no supply of food, basic necessities, and living in the dark, made me feel completely helpless. That feeling was soon lifted when our Camden family came together to do something about it.

Every year, Camden employees partner with organizations around the nation to volunteer their time to help those in need in what we call Camden Cares. The South Florida Camden team recently volunteered at Feeding South Florida, a local food bank serving all of South Florida, and were able to help with donations and provide 38,000 meals to those in need and to our friends in the Keys affected by Hurricane Irma.

With the news of Hurricane Maria, the Camden team heard the cry for help, and together we are now launching a Hurricane Relief Drive for our friends in Puerto Rico. Camden Communities across South Florida will be accepting donations, supplies, and necessities to help those caught in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

Camden cares for their residents, families, communities and for those in need outside of the nation who are near and dear to our hearts. We ask that you join forces with the Camden South Florida team and give a helping hand. We want the people on the island to know we are here for them. Puerto Rico is strong and we are Camden Strong.

Here are supplies needed along with drop off locations:
