I am a huge Community fan, every Thursday night you will find me in my Camden apartment uncontrollably laughing, holding my sides tuned into NBC.  Community is about a study group at Greendale Community College and their larger than life whimsical adventures at school and abroad.   The show has spoofed Glee, Law and Order, and The Island of Lost Toys. The cast of Community which includes Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie (who I will admit I have a huge celebrity-crush on), comedy great Chevy Chase, Ken Jeong, Jim Rash, and favorites Dani Pudi and Donald Glover.  Glover and Pudi play best friends and roommates Troy and Ahbed (respectively).  The duo push the limits of acceptably weird and naive. Glover is also well-known for his comedy and writing for acclaimed TV show 30 Rock but his talents aren't limited to making people laugh.  The NYU alum raps under the alias Childish Gambino.  Gambino, an unsigned artist, releases all of his mix tapes online for free.  Glover says he doesn't need the money and by staying unsigned Glover is able to dictate his own rap career.  Do not make the mistake that Gambino is going to be a comedic rapper, he is far from it.  Using word play, double meanings, among other poetic devises and an impressive flow Gambino tells the story of his life.

Glover, now 28, tells the story of his childhood through his young adult life.  While some songs are centered around his celebrity, a particular type of interaction with female fans, and partying Gambino is still brings a human aspect to his music.  Gambino pours his heart out and tells a beautiful story of   a self-proclaimed "geek," raised by parents who were Jehovah's witness, Gambino just didn't fit in when he was a kid but worked hard and followed his heart (and other parts of his anatomy).  Other than his love of women, Gambino continually references his family, his life, love, and his struggle with his success.  The songs run the gamut from slow spoken word to Dirty South rap with each track offering a unique sound and feel.

There is no denying it: Glover is talented; Gambino is talented.  If you appreciate talented music, deep, meaningful lyrics, or are a fan of Community give it a listen.  Be aware that the lyrics are explicit and are sexual in nature so this album is not for everyone but check out his latest mix tape, "Royalty" which can be downloaded here.  If you like it blast it (to an acceptable level so you don't bother your neighbors) in your Camden apartment.
