Hurricane Harvey made landfall on August 25th as a category 4 hurricane, barreling into Texas’ Gulf Coast. It hovered over the state of Texas for days, bringing nearly 50 inches of rain to the Houston area. According to the weather channel, Harvey’s flooding was one of the worst weather disasters in the United States and wreaked havoc on roads, homes, and businesses.

Many of Camden’s Houston team members had major damage to their homes or to their family’s homes and were unable to make it to work.  But, the high flood waters weren’t enough to keep over 30 Camden employees across the country from stepping in and helping their Houston family. Camden employees from Atlanta, Tampa, Orlando, Austin, and Dallas traveled to Houston to assist Camden’s customers in the wake of Harvey and to cover for those Camden team members impacted to focus on their homes and families.

It was all hands on deck as Camden’s team members worked around the clock to ensure each apartment was ready for move-in and to assist those in need of a place to stay – and it had to be done quick! Those who traveled from other cities to help Houston said they didn’t think twice when it came to volunteering. They saw a need and wanted to help. One employee from Camden Midtown Atlanta said, “Thank you for the opportunity to assist you all as family should.”

The entire city of Houston and surrounding metros felt the wrath of Harvey. Camden’s CEO, Ric Campo, and other Camden executives found it necessary to turn off the pricing model during this time of need. “When you have a massive influx of demand and a limited supply, the price spikes and it definitely spiked dramatically. So we turned it off and the bottom line is we froze all of our prices for everything including renewals and new leases at pre-Harvey pricing. The reason for that is it just didn’t make sense for us as a good community partner to take advantage of neighbors who flooded,” said Campo.

Camden employees rolled up their sleeves, along with the rest of the city, and started rebuilding. One employee affected by the flood waters said she was pleasantly surprised to open her door and find Camden coworkers, tools in hand, ready to work on her home.
