Spices

Add a little flair to your morning coffee by adding in some cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, or ginger. You can even mix these spices together and simmer it with your coffee and a splash of almond milk – Voila! You now have a warming chai latte!

Flavored Extracts

Vanilla, almond, peppermint, chocolate, (peppermint mocha anyone?), or even lavender! The choices are endless! Adding just a few drops of these extracts (not to be mistaken with essential oils – definitely don’t use those!)  will surely spruce up your morning by adding that extra flavor your coffee has been missing.

Grass-fed Butter

If you live in Austin, TX, then you’ve probably had your fair share of butter coffee by now. The added fats give you an endless amount of energy to get through that dreaded Monday. It also adds a rich and creamy flavor to your coffee, but be sure to mix it all together in a blender; no one wants a layer of butter just melting on top of their coffee!  Add some MCT oil for some extra health benefits and a dollop of maple syrup to make it extra delicious.

Sweetened Condensed Milk

If you don’t have the time or the tools to make a proper Vietnamese coffee, this version will do for those rushed mornings. Brew your coffee as usual and add in two tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk. This one is best served over ice – perfect for the warmer months to come!

Alternative Sweeteners

Why stop at granulated sugar? With more sweetener options becoming available at your local supermarket, you can start experimenting with coconut sugar, molasses (why not try a flavored molasses, like pomegranate), raw honey, maple syrup, and agave. While ordinary white sugar adds sweetness, using sweeteners like honey and maple syrup can add a deeper and richer flavor, completely changing the dynamic of your regular morning roast. The choices are limitless!

If coffee isn’t your ‘thing’, why not try one of these awesome add-ins for hot cocoa?
