5 Hot Bars in Long Beach / LA
Looking for something different? Enjoy craft cocktails or beers? Wanting a cheap Uber or Lyft fare from your Camden apartment? Then check out these 5 hot bars in Long Beach and LA.
The Blind Donkey – Downtown Long Beach (East Village)
Just under a mile from Camden Harbor View sits The Blind Donkey. This cool underground Whiskey bar can easily be missed even by walking by. They serve up specialty Whiskey’s from the US to Scotland to Ireland to just about everywhere else! Fun Fact: The Blind Donkey was one of the film locations for La La Land with Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling.
The Blind Donkey is located at: 149 Linden Ave, Long Beach, CA 90802
Congregation Ale House Chapter – Downtown Long Beach
Just take a 9 minute walk from Camden Harbor View and you will find Congregation Ale House Chapter. They serve up all kinds of crafts beers such as Cream Ale on Nitro, Kolsch, American Dark Ale, and tons more! My favorite is the C+A Passion of the Kolsch. If you are feeling a little peckish, they have some small bites to eat as well.
Congregation Ale House Chapter is located at: 201 E Broadway, Long Beach, CA 90802
The Edison – Downtown Los Angeles
Only 7 miles from The Camden in Hollywood and Camden Glendale sits The Edison. Blast back to the 1920’s at LA's first private power plant. 20’s inspired cocktails include a Charlie Chaplin, a boilermaker, even a fresh gimlet and two menu pages' worth of single-malt scotch. A must try drink is John Maraffi's The Doors of Paradise, with a base of St. George "Terroir" Gin with fresh basil and lemon. The décor alone is a reason to visit. You can find everything from brick and concrete framework, romantic curtained alcoves and rooms that look like a steam-punk gentleman's club with electrical generators playing backdrop to luxurious leather lounge chairs and booths.
The Edison is located at: 108 W 2nd St #101, Los Angeles, CA 90012
Everson Royce Bar – Los Angeles (Arts District)
8 miles from The Camden and Camden Glendale is Everson Royce Bar. Don’t be thrown off from the entrance with the word “Bar” above it. This low key hangout has fantastic wine and whiskey choices! The specialty cocktails are very well constructed. My favorite is the Yo LA Tengo. Featuring mescal, aperol, ginger, fresh lime, ruby red grapefruit, and soda. The large back patio is a huge draw, complete with picnic tables, wood and brick walls, and a blue bocce court.
Everson Royce Bar is located at: 1936 E 7th St, Los Angeles, CA 90021
The Walker Inn – Los Angeles (Korea Town)
Just 4 miles from The Camden and Camden Glendale is a hidden gem called The Walker Inn located in the back of the Normandie Hotel. I have yet to try this place, but I keep hearing great things about it. This place fills up all the time, so reservations for the bar are highly recommended. Reservations can be made two weeks in advance from their website, www.thewalkerinnla.com. What have I heard? They are known for their Omakase cocktails. Never heard of Omakase? Omakase is a Japanese phrase that means "I'll leave it to you.” In American English, the expression is used at sushi restaurants to leave the selection to the chef. This is very interesting concept, but I am all for it! You tell the bartender if you're allergic to anything, if you would prefer higher or lower alcohol by volume drinks and if you like your drinks on the herby, smoky, or sweet side. Then decide if you want two or three courses. Basically, you will be enjoying a liquid dinner! Enjoy!
The Walker Inn is located at: 3612 W 6th St, Los Angeles, CA 90005
