One of my favorite parts of working for Camden is the opportunity I have to meet so many different people. Over the years I have been privileged to experience some fantastic milestones in my residents’ lives: weddings, births, graduations, job promotions. As much as I celebrate these events, I also know that inevitably it will mean that my cherished residents will leave: they will move out of state to take a new job, they will find a larger place once the baby comes, they will take the leap and buy their first home. It is very bittersweet. Everyone who works in this industry knows that your residents will one day move away from your community… Camden understands that “life happens”, even in the middle of a lease contract. We do our best to make the move-out experience as smooth and easy as we possibly can, but here are some reminders to help reduce your moving day stress:

**Specific requirements may vary from state to state, so please refer to your lease contract for details**

  • You need to give a written Notice to Vacate. Even if you mention your new house during your daily chat with your favorite leasing consultant, it’s not official until we get your signature. Most Camden communities require a 60 day notice, but refer to own lease for specific details.

  • No one wants to pack up all of their stuff and then spend hours cleaning everything with a fine-tooth comb. Relax! You will be charged a cleaning fee upon move-out that covers the basic cleaning of your apartment. If you have not scrubbed the shower or cleaned the oven in the 3 years you have lived there, you can expect to get an a-la-cart charge for extra dirty items. The fee does not include any carpet stains/repairs or any damage to the apartment home.

  • If you are leaving in the middle of your lease term you will be charged a cancellation fee. Again, it’s best to check your own lease, but it is generally equal to a month’s rent.

  • Make sure you turn in all of your keys on your scheduled move out day. Some communities allow you to leave them on a counter like you would in a hotel, but most ask that you deliver them to the office so we can verify your move out, follow-up on any pending issues and to just say good-bye.

  • Please give us a forwarding address so that we can send your Final Account Statement and give back any unused deposit money.

  • Finally, I have a shameless plug! If you enjoyed your time with Camden, please consider letting others know on ApartmentRatings.com. I am more than guilty of telling everyone I know when a company has wronged me, yet I never seem to find the time to submit a positive review. I can’t tell you how happy it makes your apartment staff feel when someone takes a moment out of their busy day to say something nice about their experience. J

Camden cares deeply about its customers. As much as we hate to see you go, we are excited to see what this next stage of life will bring you. Stay in touch and have a great time!
