Here are 5 excellent reasons to have renter’s insurance:

  1. It is easy to get renter’s insurance and it is affordable!

Renter’s Insurance is easy and affordable to get. An average policy is less than $20 a month. Do some research and reach out your auto insurance company to see if they offer renter’s insurance. Sometimes if you bundle policies, you can save some money. Camden has a relationship with eRenterPlan and they make it easy for you to apply and obtain renter’s insurance, it only takes a few minutes online. No need to bring in proof of your policy to the leasing office, eRenterPlan sends it right to us.

  1. Camden requires you to have a renter’s insurance policy.

You are required to have a minimum of $100,000 in liability renter’s insurance when you lease your apartment with Camden. You also need to keep it updated and active every year. Camden wants to make sure all our residents are covered in case an unfortunate event outside of your control happens, so we encourage you to also add personal property coverage into your policy as well.

  1. It covers the loss of your personal property.

TVs, computers, dressers, couches, clothes, shoes, dishes and everything else in your apartment home really add up if you had to replace it all. Your renter’s insurance policy can replace all your personal items in case of a disaster. Pro tip: Keep a running list or take pictures of your belongings so you know what needs to be replaced. If you have any big-ticket items such as a custom computer or expensive engagement ring – you may want to consider an additional rider on your policy to protect those specific items.

  1. It provides liability coverage.

Liability coverage is crucial to have (and required by Camden). This provides protection to you if someone is injured in your apartment home such as tripping on your rug. It also covers if you personally cause damage to your apartments home such as an accidental fire or leaving your water on all day. If you are negligent in your apartment home, then you are held responsible. Not just the damages in your apartment but also to any others around you that may be affected.

  1. Living Expenses may be covered.

If something happens and you can’t live in your apartment home, your renter’s insurance may cover living expenses such a temporary housing and food. This is crucial to have so that you and your family are taken care of.

Side note: Check to see if your Camden community is in a flood or earthquake zone. You may need an additional policy to cover flood or earthquake damage.
