I am passionate about many things in my life – Apple products, TiVo, reading, my friends; however there are a few things that rise above the rest – my family, my faith and my Baylor Bears! I bleed Green and Gold! I graduated from Baylor many, many years ago at the end of Grant Teaff’s coaching career. Back then we had a football team that made us proud and we usually ended the season with more wins than losses. The years since his departure have not been as kind to the football program. As much as we would love to shout that our players are smarter than yours, our basketball teams are awesome or our track stars are Olympians, in the end it seems as though a school is judged by the quality of the football team. It was easy to be a die-hard fan at the end of a winning season; it’s much more difficult to maintain that enthusiasm in the face of 50-point losses and seasons with only 1 win. However, I am anything but a fair-weather fan and my loyalty remained undeterred! I love my Bears no matter what because I know that the team gives 100% despite what is reflected on the scoreboard. The players want to do their best for the fans, but often the challenges are just too insurmountable.   One of my favorite things about Camden is the expectation to “Do the Right Thing”. We love our residents and we are committed to Living Excellence. Your Camden staff is a lot like my Baylor Bears. They give 100% to make you happy, but at times the end result seems like a loss. Almost without exception our residents start off as passionate fans, but somewhere down the line a problem pops up that can threaten the relationship between resident and community. As much as we hate it, there will be fumbles and disappointing losses along the way. Hang in there! Victories are much sweeter in the face of adversity than they are when things have always been easy. It is my sincere hope that your living experience with Camden is a long and happy one. However, please do not hesitate to contact your Community Office if there are things we can improve. We want you to be as proud to call Camden your home as you are to wear your favorite team jersey.   Tonight I will be able to celebrate the fruits of my undying dedication to Baylor. 2011 has been an unprecedented season: our quarterback, Robert Griffin III, has won a slew of awards including the school’s first Heisman Trophy, we have had amazing victories over top-tier teams, we finally have a nationally ranked program, and our season ends tonight with a trip to the Alamo Bowl. It means so much more to share this experience knowing that I remained faithful not matter what!   We are Camden! Sic ‘Em Bears!
