You may have heard the term “capsule wardrobe” before, but what exactly is a capsule wardrobe?  A capsule wardrobe is a collection of around 20-30 staple pieces that you can mix and match to create endless outfit combinations. People adopt capsule wardrobes for various reasons. The biggest benefit for apartment dwellers is space-saving and helping to attain a more minimalistic lifestyle. If you’re not sold on capsule wardrobes, read on to discover some surprising benefits!

It takes up less room

A capsule wardrobe is more space-efficient than a regular wardrobe because there is a limit to the number of pieces you own.  Adopting a capsule wardrobe will free up valuable closet space and make it easier to stay organized. Having a designated section in your closet for tops, pants, outerwear, and shoes will not only help to keep your bedroom closet neat and organized but will also streamline your morning routine. Marie Kondo would be proud!

Quick and effortless outfits

Be honest, how much time do you spend picking out an outfit in the morning? Factor in the time you spend in front of the mirror, deciding if you actually want to wear the outfit you just put on. It’s a lot. After you have adopted a capsule wardrobe, you will notice the different outfit combinations you can make with the items you own. Your outfit choices will be intentional and will ultimately save you time deciding what to wear everywhere, from a job interview or out to dinner with friends.

Save time packing

Packing for a trip can definitely feel like a daunting task, but with a capsule wardrobe, packing is quick and effortless. Just like picking your outfit in the morning, you will already have outfit ideas in your head that you can easily select from your closet and pack in a cinch! As an added bonus, you will not be bringing anything with you that you don’t actually plan on wearing, saving space in your suitcase and potentially avoiding an overweight bag fee at the airport.

Purge those pieces you never wear

Curating your capsule wardrobe is the perfect opportunity to purge your closet of any clothes that no longer fit. You can also say goodbye to clothes you haven’t worn for years or are no longer mesh with your style.  With a capsule wardrobe, every item is intentional and has a purpose within your wardrobe. Consider donating any clothing or shoes in fair condition to your local homeless shelter or halfway house.

It could save you money in the long run

Capsule wardrobes are meant to be timeless, which means that you can wear these items for years to come. Once you have curated your capsule wardrobe, you will not need to purchase any additional items - unless you just want to freshen up your collection with a new pair of jeans or a blouse. Consider investing a little more in what will become the “statement” pieces in your wardrobe, or in other words, the items you will wear most often. A pair of leather boots is a great statement piece to invest in, as they're an item you can wear with almost any outfit, look better over time as they get worn in, and will have longevity in your wardrobe.

Experiment and take your time

Finding your perfect capsule wardrobe looks will take some experimenting, so don’t worry if it’s not perfect straight out of the gate! You can draw inspiration from fashion magazines and Pinterest and make it your own! Luckily, your Camden apartment is equipped with plenty of closet space to use while you sort your items and live your day-to-day life. Now that we’re thinking of it, why not do a little Spring cleaning while you’re already decluttering your space? How’s that for multi-tasking?
