Camden Cares: Houston Employees Give Back
Photos provided by Camden employees
For the 4th year in a row corporate and Houston area, Camden employees participated in Camden Cares - a volunteer effort with non-profit organization Rebuilding Together Houston. Employees from all levels and seniority took time out of their busy work weeks to come together and help fix up the homes of lower-income senior citizens and veterans in Houston. After the completion of this year’s projects Camden has helped rebuild over 60 homes in the Houston area.
WHO does Camden work with?
Rebuilding Together is a nationwide volunteer organization that completes over 10,000 home rebuilding projects each year for elderly and veteran homeowners who could not otherwise afford repairs and upkeep on their homes.
WHY is Camden involved?
Camden is in the business of creating homes for people. This partnership with Rebuilding Houston made perfect sense. Camden Cares also offers a great opportunity for employees to get to know co-workers from various departments and properties while giving back to the community that has given so much to Camden.
WHAT do Camden volunteers do?
This year Camden volunteers took on 14 houses. They fixed various issues from repairing garages to replacing door frames to slapping on a coat of fresh paint. Some homeowners had been on a wait list for over two years and were very appreciative of the time Camden employees offered. Each homeowner also got a new door mat to welcome them back to their newly improved homes. Get the facts about our efforts with Rebuilding Houston in the video below!
HOW can you get involved?
Rebuilding Houston is always looking for volunteers. People can get involved by volunteering with Rebuilding Houston as individuals or by creating crews within their various organizations (churches, schools, family, friends etc.). Donations are also a welcome way to help. According to Julie Mintzer, Communications and Advancement Manager of Rebuilding Together Houston, “Right now, we NEED roofing shingles and roof materials. We can ALWAYS use primer, ladders, paint brushes, work gloves, and air conditioning units. Of course, individuals are welcome to make financial gifts to our mission--helping us help more people!”
