Stress. It’s everywhere. We encounter it on the road, in the office, at the grocery store, at the doctor – with our fast paced world it is virtually unavoidable. The last place we want to bring stress is to our home. Two of our experts at Simply Camden have some tips and tricks for you to create a calm space with essential oils.

While not a substitute for certified medical aid when needed, essential oils can be great for alleviating everyday stress. The easiest way to create a calm space with essential oils is to diffuse them aromatically. It only takes a few drops of these potent oils to spread a calming scent throughout your apartment.

Here are our 6 favorite essential oil blends to take your stress away:

1.**Balance Essential Oils Blend:** Lavender and cedarwood are two essential oils that create a calm atmosphere and bring balance to your body. Diffuse these two oils together in your apartment at the end of a long day or right before bed. Or, add to a hot bath to bring peace and relaxation before bed or apply to your feet before bed to help you sleep.

2.**Calm Essential Oils Blend:** Lavender, sweet marjoram, roman chamomile, ylang ylang, sandalwood and vanilla bean. This combination of oils is a popular blend to create well-being and relaxation. A few drops of each of these in a diffuser, in your bath, or on your feet at night will also give you a calm space.

3.**Grounding Essential Oils Blend:** Spruce, rosewood, frankincense, and blue tansy. Enjoy the warm, woody aroma as it creates a sense of calmness and well-being throughout your apartment. The combination of these essential oils promotes whole body relaxation, so this blend is also good for the bath.

4.**Grapefruit Essential Oil:** Grapefruit oil helps reduce mental and physical fatigue, wiping away your stresses from the day. Like the calm and balance blends, you can add grapefruit oil to your diffuser and bath. You can also apply grapefruit oil directly to your skin at your wrists and temples to infuse your body with grapefruit’s cleansing and purifying benefits.

5.**Patchouli Essential Oil:** The scent of this rich, musky-sweet essential oil is easily recognizable and highly potent. It has a grounding effect that will help balance your emotions at the end of a long day. Add patchouli to your diffuser to create a calm atmosphere in your entire apartment or in your bath to help you unwind and de-stress.

6.**Lavender Essential Oil:** You may have noticed lavender oil is an ingredient in two of our calm space blends. That’s because this soothing oil is widely known for its calming and relaxing qualities. The sweet aroma is unmistakable and will fill your entire apartment with a fresh, revitalizing scent in a diffuser. Lavender also eases muscle tension, so add it to your bath to de-stress.

A few notes on buying essential oils to create a calm space:

  • Not all oils are created equal. While there are many sellers of essential oils these days, you want to look for 100% pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils. This grade gives you the highest concentrate of oils per bottle.

  • Some essential oils can be pricy, but most will run you $10 - $20 per bottle and yield up to 350 drops (that’s a lot since most essential oils recipes only require 2-3 drops).

  • There are several different oil and plant options that work for the same ailment or objective, but let your individual aroma preference dictate the ones you choose to diffuse in your home.
