It’s all too easy for any space to get cluttered. This is especially true when you have pets in an apartment. Between the scratching posts, toys, food bowls, food bags, litter, litter boxes things get crowded quick. Your sanctuary can become theirs before you know it. That’s why strategically hiding some of the more unsightly aspects of being a pet owner is a great way to utilize your space and keep the balance between the look of “cat lover” and “cat lady”. See below for some D-I-Y and B-U-Y options to hide your cat’s litter box.

  1. End-Table Litter Box

This easy solution can be done by adding a small curtain cover under an end table, side table, or a large bathroom sink if it has enough room underneath. You can draw the curtain open in the back rather than the front to keep it even more discreet. I’d also recommend putting a mat (search 'bar mat' on amazon) under the box to help keep stray litter from getting on the floor.

2. Ikea Hackers’ Besta Kitty Loo and Faktum Kitty Loo

Ikea hacks are all over the internet. One of the benefits of their many pieces and cheaper nature is they are very easy to customize without breaking the bank. Both of these under-cabinet options are perfect for both hiding your litter box and creating more counter space in your Camden apartment.

3. Olive and Love's Filing Cabinet Litter Box

Filing cabinets can often be found at resale shops or on Craig’s List for very cheap and they look like just another part of the room when placed near a desk. This is a great way to conceal your litter box in an area of your apartment where most guests won’t get a whiff of what is going on.

4. Unusually Lovely - Wardrobe Litter Box

I love that this hidden litterbox option is so roomy and leaves a top drawer open for extra storage space.  There are so many cheap chests of drawers to be found and refurbished at garage sales, on Craig’s List, and maybe even on MyCamden. This is perfect for larger cats as well that may feel cramped in other sized litter box containers.

5. Apartment Therapy - Wine Case Litter Box

As a wine lover, I am especially fond of this wine case upcycle. It is a perfect way to add some personality to your apartment.  This crate would look chic in any kitchen area or near a bar cart. The only change I would make would be to use a small litter box rather than line the inside with plastic as cats' claws could easily do damage.

B-U-Y Rather Than D-I-Y

For those of you who are not wanting to take the time for a DIY, there are plenty of options in all price ranges for a pre-made hidden litter box. Below are some of the great options out there.

Litter Box Plant

Good Pet Stuff - Hidden Litter Box || $70 on Amazon

As far as hidden litter boxes go this one is on the cheaper end. I love that with a fresh coat of paint the plastic planter could fit in any space.

A pricier, but higher-end planter/litter box combo is this one from Pet’s Best Products. With its customizable options that allow you to mix and match pots, plants, and sizes you are sure to find a hidden planter that works in your home.

PinkBau - Litter Box Cover/Cat House - $239.31

This contemporary option is made of spruce wood that looks great on its own or could be painted to add some extra color to your apartment.

Out of Sight Litter Box || $338

One perk of this litter box cabinet is that the litter box rests higher up in the cabinet to keep litter from getting all over your apartment. A definite issue we cat owners try to avoid.
