Barbecue, Black Cats fireworks and beer. That is what the fourth of July consists of in Texas. It’s a typical hot summer day and you don’t have to go to work… what else would you be doing? Some of you may head to Kaboom town or downtown for fireworks but haven’t you done that for the last 3 years? Why not change up the routine a bit? Whether you’re looking for something kid-friendly or you prefer the night scene, there’s plenty to do in your own city. Overall, the goal is to enjoy good food and good drinks on a nice summer day while we celebrate our independence. Find out below just how you can do that with or without the family.
When: 07/04/2017 Time: 9-11 a.m. Where: Plano, TX
You know when parades are most fun? When you’re there physically to witness them! Don’t settle for watching the parade on TV this year. The parade begins in the parking lot of the Plano ISD administration building but you can map out the entire route from their website (see link above). You can be a part of the festivities right here in your own city! Get the kids out of the house for a while. Oh, did I mention that it’s FREE?
When: 07/04/2017 Time: 4-9 p.m. Where: Simpson Plaza at City Hall- 6101 Frisco Square Blvd
The parade is over. Next stop should be one of Plano (or Frisco’s) many restaurants to grab brunch. Then head over to one of Plano’s neighboring cities for the Frisco Freedom Fest. Your kids will love the Children’s Expo complete with jump houses, face painting and games. Prices are listed on their website. There’s plenty for parents to do as well! The taste of Frisco is back and will be in full effect this Independence day. You will probably also want to peruse the Patriotic Vendor Village for some easy ways to get involved in the community and network. All of this is topped off with one of the largest fireworks finales in North Texas. Sparks start flying around 10 p.m.

When: 07/04/2017 Time: 11 – 2 a.m. Where: 2523 Mckinney Ave Dallas, TX
The name may sound strange but after running around all day, unwinding in one of Uptown Dallas’ premiere bars is the perfect way to end your night- and Fat Rabbit is the place. I know this one is not in or near Plano, TX however, Fat Rabbit, being popular for their food just as much as the drinks and overall atmosphere, makes it well worth the drive. Enjoy $4 Crown and half off their delicious flat breads all night (and day) this July 4th. Drop the kids off at their grandparents and finish your night off the right way. What better way to end your celebrations than to have some care-free social time with good eats?
Whether you’re bringing the kids out or leaving them behind, be sure you take advantage of all your city has to offer this year. As always, be kind, be safe and have FUN!
