13 Reasons Camden is One of the Best Workplaces for Women: Connie Farr
Here’s the 6th Edition of the Simply Camden blog series celebrating 13 inspirational Camden women. We were recently named #13 on Fortunes List for Best Workplaces for Women, and in this feature, we get to know, Connie Farr in Charlotte.
My journey began in 1988 as a Community Manager in Orlando with the company Paragon. After working with the company for about a year, I was promoted to District Manager. I have held that role and my current Regional Manager position ever since. I have been with Camden for 29 years, come January. The merger between Camden and Paragon had some uncertainty, but I’m grateful for the transition. This change joined me with the greatest company in the world!
Lasting friendships made at Camden
I have made so many lasting friendships with Camden while in Orlando, Charlotte, and across the U.S. When I was asked to move to Charlotte to take the portfolio in 1998, I took a step of faith, but knew my Camden family would help me through this big change. I was ready to take on a new challenge. The day after the position was offered to me, I was on a plane to Charlotte. I love helping others and I knew I could use this strength with my new team. Every step of the way was a team effort, but little did my team know, they were the ones helping me. Throughout my time in Charlotte, my team has taught me how to become a better leader, coworker, and friend.
Taking a leap of faith
Moving to Charlotte was a tough transition. I had to leave my daughter who had just graduated from Stetson University in Florida. Little did I know at the time that there were great things in store for me. It was the best decision I ever made not only with my career but in my personal life too. I met my now husband through a friend shortly after moving there. Larry and I have been together for 16 years and he is my very best friend. The added bonus came when my daughter, Amy, joined me in Charlotte. I now have 3 grandsons, Wes 13, Wyatt, 9 and Josiah 4. We live in Fort Mill, South Carolina on 3 acres. I am truly blessed.
Relationships made of gold
I am motivated because I love what I do. I love working at ground zero, at the communities with the people. I love the team and working with the wonderful folks at Camden. I love to make a difference and make things happen. I have great managers that make my job all worthwhile. As a team, we love to deliver results and take pride in being the very best.
My favorite part about Camden is the people, of course. The long term working relationships are worth gold to me. I love what I do. I like the fact that we can all laugh at ourselves and just have fun in the simple things. I love it when I go out on site, and folks are glad to see me. That makes me know that I am viewed as part of the team. Being at a community is where it is happening and there is no greater value than that.
Hard work pays off
Rumor has it I’ll be retiring soon, but I am not using a retirement ticker. I have tons of energy, love what I do and the company I do it for. When I do retire, I see travel in the future. I plan to stay active in water aerobics, spend more time with my grandkids, volunteer at local missions, and continue to support Larry as a professional musician in local orchestras. My platter will be full, but for now, I’ll continue working for Camden, the best company there is.
