Camden
We are Camden Property Trust. As one of the largest multifamily real estate investment trusts (REITs) in the nation, Camden specializes in several disciplines within the residential real estate industry. We provide expertise in the ownership, development and management of apartment communities; in the acquisition, disposition and redevelopment of properties; and in consulting, building and construction services for third party clients.
Camden was founded in 1982 by two individuals who believed that by creating a company based on a set of core values they could create long-term value for their customers. Originally focused on high-rise condominiums, we purchased our first apartment community in 1987 in Houston, Texas. In July 1993, the founding partners, Ric Campo and Keith Oden, took the company public and proceeded to expand the organization through three strategic mergers and the development of more than $1.7 billion in Camden flagship communities.
Since Camden's initial public offering in 1993, we have grown from 310 employees and 6,000 apartments in Texas to nearly 2,000 employees and almost 70,000 apartments nationwide. We believe the reasons for our success can be attributed to our commitment from the very beginning to hire and retain the best people - those who share our values and our desire to be the best - and by focusing on six key strategies that have stood the test of time. These strategies guided our decisions at our IPO in 1993, and they keep us grounded as we maneuver through today's dynamic real estate environment. Most importantly, they will continue to direct our future decisions, helping us make the moves that enhance our residents' living experience, our employees' work experience and our shareholders' value.
Camden owns interests in and operates 180 properties containing 62,338 apartment homes geographically dispersed across the United States from Washington, D.C. to Southern California. Through the ownership of land parcels and development rights in promising markets, Camden is uniquely prepared for future growth. Our development pipeline is substantial, with over $2.0 billion in current and future projects. Upon completion of 12 properties under development, the Company's portfolio will increase to 66,121 apartment homes in 192 properties.
